Question

Roku 3 hook up with Comcast Cable & Panasonic Home Theater

Feb 26, 2016 8:14PM PST

Just upgraded to Roku 3 (from RCA) and am trying to hook up to existing Comcast cable box and Panasonic Home Theater. I am able to get a picture; however, the streaming channels' (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) sound can be heard through the TV speakers only -- not the Home Theater Sound System. Cable TV and DVD's will play through Home Theater.

The cable box, Panasonic Home Theater and Roku are connected individually to Sharp Aquos HDTV HDMI inputs. What must I do to play streaming channels through Home Theater. I was unable to get an answer from Roku.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Many TVs will not pass 5.1 if the source is HDMI. So set you Roku to send stereo that all the TVs I know of will pass.

My apology for not replying sooner but new to forum. This is what I posted originally:

FURTHER CLARIFICATION:

I have an older home theater system -- a Panasonic DVD Home Theater Sound System, Model HT940. I am able to get a picture while streaming Netflix, Hulu, etc.; however, I am unable to get sound through my Panasonic DVD Home Theater Sound System. I can only get sound through the TV speakers. My Home Theater system has only one HDMI port, which again is connected to the HDMI port of the TV. What must I do to get the sound from my streaming channels to play through my Home Theater. I couldn't get an answer from Roku. I will try Panasonic to see if they can give me a definitive answer.

I hope this helps, and thanks for responding -- much appreciated!

Page 9 of this manual.

Page 9 of ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/hometheater/om/sc-ht740_en_om.pdf only shows a stereo connection from other devices.

But here again a details stops me from completing my answer. I went to find "Sharp Aquos HDTV" and found dozens on models. It would be too much work to take the top 20 and check how to connect.

But as it stands, my comment about stereo audio from the Roku will stand as the HT in question does not accept optical or more than stereo inputs.
