3. I used HijackThis to delete the entry for server.exe above as well as to remove the file from disk so that it will not be around at the next start-up.

4. I manually deleted server.exe from the \AppData\Roaming\Install folder. I noticed that the file was created automatically a few seconds after it was deleted !!!

Any assistance to get rid of the annoying malware described above would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Re: Rogue program

janplayer,

Best bet is to head over to www.bleepingcomputer.com, post your problem and follow directions posted there by their experts exactly. This type of problem is what they do.

Did you try System Restore?

Rogue file Server.exe loaded on start-up

Hi mchainmchain,

I have not tried System Restore yet.

I was hoping someone had encountered this before and therefore had a 'neater' solution.
Will go to bleepingcomputer.com a bit later.

Thanks for your response.

This looks to be connected to a business system

I see signs this is on a domain but you didn't reveal that. If so, it looks like a policy enforcement to me. Ask the IT admin to remove this.
