Roddy update for spybot s&d

by phil66 / September 12, 2007 10:36 PM PDT

You posted an update on 9/12/07 for spybot s&d is this for 1.4 or 1.5 version

I have 1.5 installed and when I try to update I receive "no new version available"

It also show 65889 items protected and 0 items unprotected.

Not "Roddy", but
by eddie11013 / September 13, 2007 12:35 AM PDT

this is a very interesting question, because, before the updates yesterday, on version 1.5 by the way, I was fully "protected". After the updates, I had: 119 unprotected, 46,704 protected, for a total of 46,823. I tried to 'redo', didn't help. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled this morning, after seeing your post, and there was an error, something about: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem, but it installed anyway. After getting the updates, I now have: 0 Unprotected, 46,823 protected, for a total of 46,823. So your 65,889 protected leaves me wondering.
Maybe 1.5 is not ready for prime time. Or I have something wrong with my computer. Or maybe, different OS have different totals. I have win xp pro.
Thanks for the post, Phil

After deselect all - undo then immunize again I now have:

66079 items enabled. More people are having problems - maybe it's "best" to keep an eye on the forum: Threads in Forum : Spybot-S&D

Differences in the "total" immunization counts...

I don't know if anything has changed, with the newest version, in regard to people showing different totals. I think maybe not, since Spybot still immunizes in the same fashion. "md usa spybot fan" explains it far better than I could, in the below post. Also see the below thread under that.

Another reason for different totals, could be the use of different operating systems. "There is a HUGE difference between Windows ME and XP. Spybot adds the same immunization to more registry hives in the XP system then in the ME system so the counts are higher." See the below.

Hopefully.. the above will eliminate your "wondering"!

Wow! You really had to dig for those 'old' replies. LOL. Thanks. I'll leave this alone for now, since I don't seem to have a problem anyway. However, it is interesting that four people have posted and they 'all' have different totals. Granted three are at least in the same ball park with: 65889, 66079 & 66552. Maybe not only different OS's, but maybe also IE6 or IE7 or XP Home, XP Pro, or Vista, etc. etc. etc. LOL.
Thanks again

You're welcome, Eddie..

You made a good point. And for the record, I didn't have to do much digging. I have a folder in OE with "Spybot" information in it. I think it's why I presently have OE "falling to it's knees", at the moment. Laugh Too much information. Too many folders. I had an immunization problem, when I first installed it. After enabling SpywareBlaster, it seems to have straightened things out. I read yesterday, where having Spyware Doctor installed, can leave 12 items disabled. It's tough to keep up with all this "stuff"!

In the Past Spybot Has Had Different Totals....

for different OS's as not all OS's are subject to all the same attack vectors. This was quite noticeable when had 98 & XP.
I just updated to 1.5 yesterday w/ NO Problems but.... I believe the same update defs & Immunizations apply to either 1.4 or 1.5 at least on my 2 machines the same one worked. Currently XPSP2 w/ 1.4 & XP SP1+++
with 1.5.

I believe that how you prepare to un-install 1.4 (turning OFF SD Helper & Tea Timer & UN-immunizing before un-install) makes the difference in getting good loading of 1.5.

Before installing 1.5, be sure to TURN OFF AV & any running background protectors to prevent possible corruption of new install.

Worked for me like a charm. Good Luck!! Grin

I have had no problems updating
by roddy32 / September 13, 2007 1:02 AM PDT

with the new version yet but as Marianna said, you are not alone Ray.

BTW with XPSP2 I show

unprotected - 0
protected - 66406
Total - 66552

I do not know why there is a difference in the numbers but that has been like that since I first downloaded the new version. I have EVERYTHING checkmarked for protection including the hosts file. Maybe the other 146 are for Vista but that is a guess.

I agree with Marianna about either monitoring their forum or posting a question there.

Thanks everyone for the replies

This must of been what the techs in this area call a glitch

Myself I call it PITA

After numerous tries this morning I let it rest until this afternoon it downloaded the update and gave me a 66079 items protected

I use XP home sp2 and I do remember the difference that existed with ME

All's well that ends well
