Robertson: God Says Tsunami Possible For U.S.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Rev. Pat Robertson says God has told him that storms and possibly a tsunami will hit America's coastline this year.

The founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network has told viewers of "The 700 Club" that the revelations came to him during his annual personal prayer retreat in January.

"If I heard the Lord right about 2006, the coasts of America will be lashed by storms," Robertson said May 8.

He added specifics in Wednesday's show.

"There well may be something as bad as a tsunami in the Pacific Northwest," he said.

Robertson has come under intense criticism in recent months for suggesting that U.S. agents should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution for Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip

Is there any chance he'll resign if his prediction turns out to be wrong? That at least would be a step in the right direction.

There have been a number of science programs discussing precisely these scenarios in the last 12 months, I wonder which of them he's been watching, and which one he took to be the voice of God.

If I were on a conversational basis with God, there's a couple of items I'd like to ask the Almighty to do, beginning with a quick tweak on the compassion control for everyone in the world, and a massive downturn on the violence and xenophobia controls. After that there's actually a chance we could work it all out ourselves, and give thanks to the Almighty with a new sense of awe and respect.

Everybody knows about the volcanic and earthquake activity in around the Pacific, especially. With the latest eruption, the water around the shoreland parts of the islands of Hawaii rose a few inches. (Mark@Night would know best.) So I reckon it could be said that a US state was effected by a tsunami in 2006 already.

Everybody also knows that natural disasters can occur without warning. The floods in New England are the worse in 70 years. We are now nearing the start of hurricane season, but don't know where of if a devestating one will hit. We have a lot of vulnerable coastline.

Whether we call it Mother Nature or God, we have all been "spoken to", and are aware that we should be prepared.
