Roadrunner and a blank blue screen

Jun 4, 2007 1:52AM PDT

How do I get rid of the blue screen and start seeing the homepage for Roadrunner? The browser that I have is IE 7. The things I tried is : uninstalled flash player 9 and then reinstalled it, but it didn't help. I made sure javascript and flash were enabled. I also tried it on a different browser Mozilla Firefox, but nothing but the blue screen. In this browser though at the bottom in the taskbar it flashes "read hercules www.rr.com transferring data from quantum.com...

The security I have is active virus shield and I ran that, but nothing came up. I also ran an adware scan and deleted anything they found. I called the company, but no help from them. Is there a solution to this problem I might be overlooking? Thanks in advance to all who answer.

The message you see
Jun 5, 2007 12:08AM PDT

is a message the Roadrunner thinks is your problem.

Message reads something like this:

"What is this blue screen?

When attempting to view www.rr.com, a blue screen may appear due to various security settings in your browser. In order to get rid of the blue screen that appears when viewing www.rr.com and still keep a high security level, you will need to adjust your security settings.
For instructions on correcting this click this link."

The page is in Adobe Flash. Adobe Flash Player can be downloaded here

http://www.adobe.com/

You need to download the Flash Player using Internet Explorer. Then you need to download the Flash Player using Mozilla Firefox. All browsers use a different version.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox and using the extension NoScript, right click on the Blue S with the red circle and line, then tell it to allow rr.com, since this is your isp provider. You can also temporarily allow to, if you wish.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox and still have a Blue screen, you might be using the extension Flashblock. If this is the case, scrool down and look for the play arrow and click on it. Be patient, their page loads slow but should appear for you.

Hope this helps.

Roadrunner just doesn't work
Jul 5, 2007 2:51PM PDT

I've spent two days doing what is suggested here, systematically following the security instructions from RoadRunner, and talking on the phone with TimeWarner tech support who told me to contact MicroSoft or Toshiba because it wasn't their problem.

Roadrunner is simply programmed in a way that doesn't work on all machines and Roadrunner tech support has no fixes to get it working.

Depending on the browser you're using
Jul 5, 2007 11:51PM PDT

I can get there using both Internet Explorer 6 and Mozilla Firefox.

Go to control panel

click on internet options

click on security

click on custom level

change drop down menu to medium

click on the reset button

click apply

click ok

Now click on the url below and make sure to update the Flash Player. You can also update other items. Take what you want. It's just trying to update your programs.

http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/

After you update the flash player, you can try it and see if it works.

Remember If you use Internet Explorer to go to http://rr.com then you need to download the Flash Player for Internet Explorer, using Internet Explorer. Use the browser you're using to download the Flash player. There is a different version of Flash Player for each browser.

Can you tell me which browser you're using?

Still no luck
Jul 10, 2007 2:26AM PDT

I have spent 2 hours on the phone with roadrunner tech support and have gotten nowhere. I have 2 computers at home, differnt OS, differnt versions of IE and I still cannot get rid of the blue screen. I've tried every instruction on this site and others and I finally decided to give up. Can't really grasp why I can surf all over the Internet and the only site to give me trouble is roadrunner. What a waste.....

Still no luck
Jul 10, 2007 4:39AM PDT

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried them all. I'm using Vista with MSIE 7 and Norton Internet Security. The filehippo update checker doesn't seem to be compatible with Vista... at least it stops working and Microsoft announces that they will look for a solution in their own good time.

I've also tried Firefox and it doesn't work either.

I think the problem is that RoadRunner has produced a website that just doesn't work on many platforms which is inexcusable for a service that they charge customers money for.

Thanks again for trying. I appreciate your help very much. It's indicative that an Adobe tech specialist jumped in to try to help but RoadRunner tech folks are absent.

7 posts and one major thing missing.

I have a new Vista machine here but can't check the site because I never read which roadrunner URL to try.

As such I haven't tried this.

On a "new" Vista laptop.
Jul 10, 2007 5:58AM PDT

It's one day old. I took the machine out of the box and all I've done is dismiss Norton with prejudice. Free AVG AV and AntiSpyware is installed and the Vista firewall is all that is in place.

www.rr.com loaded in about 4 seconds.

Details:
- Comcast system.
- 3Com cable modem
- Netgear WPNT834 with SSID enabled and WPA for security
- Acer 5570-2977
- Seamonkey web browser loaded www.rr.com in less than 4 seconds.
- IE 7 loaded it in over 30 seconds with plenty of addons coming down during the load. Good thing my connection is working great.
- Vista Home Premium...
- Free AVG AV and AntiSpyware

What does this mean? Not much except you can compare my setup to yours.

RR Medic6 fixed my blue screen problem
Sep 15, 2007 4:49PM PDT

I tried everything I could think of to get rid of the Road Runner blue sceen, with no success. I download and installed Medic6.exe and it fixed the problem. I found Medic6 at http://help.rr.com under Self Help Tools.

Hope this works for others.

I had the same problem. You have to go to your Internet Connections and then under connectivity type in http://www.rr.com/
