Rimm Memory Question

Nov 23, 2004 7:27PM PST

I have a question about RIMM Memory. I want to upgrade my memory in my Dell Dimension 8200 I currently have 2 128Mb modules. I want to buy one 256 memory to replace one of the memory modules. My question is do I have to have two of the same or can I mix them i.e one 128 and one 256.

Check with either Dell, Kingston.com or Crucial.com. They all should be able to tell you what is needed to update your memory.

Dell support website has the info you need, 100% answer. The fact is you do install, "in pairs of same type". I forget for your model 8200, if you have 4 slots for ram, you're using two now, and the remaining two, remove the Continutely modules=CIMMs, then install new RIMMs as pair, thus keeping your old ram installed plus new. Though, it maybe better to have higher mb RIMM installed first., but again Dell has a ram map/configuartion on how ram can be installed. Hope this helps...

good luck Grin -----Willy
