RightMark CPU clock utility

Mar 29, 2005 12:21AM PST

Several months ago, I have purchased a new notebook with Pentium 4 with HT. The reason why I have chosen P4 over Centrino was because I preferred system with better performance. Thickness and weight of P4 notebook do not matter much to me, because I use my notebook mostly on my desk without carrying it around. However, after using this notebook some period of time, fan noise became bothersome to me. (The fan speeds up every 1 or 2 minutes even when notebook is not actively used. By the way, does this happen with Centrino notebooks?) Setting the Power options control panel to Max battery does not help much. Then, I came across with this utility software. The website for this software is located at
http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml
According to this website, this software can change throttled clock speed of P4 and enable Dynamic on-demand clock modulation to P4 system. I was wondering whether use of this software can be a promising way of reducing heat generated by P4 system and power usage significantly, just as the SpeedStep Technology found in Centrino notebooks does.
