Right click disabled on desktop--HELP!

Nov 8, 2006 11:03AM PST

Such is what happens when one receives a new (used) computer.

Given to me by a friend, this computer was LOADED with spyware and malware. Used Ad-Aware and Spybot to get rid of them, ran Symantec Antivirus, and now they're gone. However, I think one such piece of spyware did something to the Registry, and I can't right-click on the desktop--and only the desktop. Anywhere else, it works just fine. When I right-click an icon, it just highlights it. I can move it, drag it, but no context menu pops up at all.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Does it require tweaking the Registry a bit so that I can have my right click back? Anyone who knows, please reply. I'm running Windows XP.
