Question

Right click and save is broken

Mar 3, 2018 11:00AM PST

All of a sudden I am no longer able to right click and save pictures from FB threads. When I right click on a picture no menu pops up.
I tried the same pictures from the sane threads with my wife's account and everything works fine.
Is there some setting or permission I need to fix?

I forgot to post:
My system is a desktop Dell Inspiron running Win 8.1 and I'm using IE 11.0.46 as my browser. I also tried in Chrome and it won't work there either.
Of course face Book has been absolutely no help at all. Sad

I've read through most of those links after searching before I posted here and couldn't find any that addressed my particular issue.
It seems to be something in my FB account because my wife's account functions as it should on my computer on the same pages saving the same pictures I tried to save using my own account.
Could deactivating and reactivating my account possibly fix this?

It's likely to be browser related.

Does it happen on all browsers? Here I have Chrome, Firefox, Edge, IE and Opera.

All browsers

The browsers I have loaded on both computers (my desktop & wife's laptop) are IE 11 and Chrome. The issue happens to my account on both computers and both browsers. If I use my wife's FB account everything works fine, right click and the menu pops up.

Another odd thing, the pics in a ‘For Sale’ ad on FB save ok with my account. Right click and the menu pops up with no problems. Apparently the way those pics are posted is different than pics in a regular thread.

So let me share my total workaround for FireFox.
Mar 4, 2018 9:46AM PST

I press Alt+T then select Page Info. Over to Media and find the image and save it. Not as quick but gets around all blocks I've seen to date.

Why does it work in one account or another? That's a mystery maybe someone else will know.

R. this is what I get when I push Alt+T, I don't see an option for Page Info
I tried to post a screen shot but it wouldn't submit

Doesn't work with me either. But Tools from the menu bar does.

In fact, my Firefox is in Dutch, so Tools is Extra, so it's Alt+X with me. It's language dependent. If you don't have a menu bar, activate it with a right click on an empty part next to the tabs.

See the Dutch man's reply.

It varies with language. Mine in set to English today.

Answer
Delete your facebook cookie in those browsers

Go to facebook and sign in again. I suspect facebook has some sort of javascript that stops image copying for profiles they have restricted due to whatever their excuse or reason might be with you.

In the interim, why not do screen capture of the page and then paste into your graphids/photo program, crop out the image you want, then save it.

In windows the screen capture may be CTRL + PrtScr keys, or just the latter key.

I use linux and at times on some pages that put image copy protection up, I press my PrtScr key, it opens screenshot, I outline the area I want, then save to a file, or paste into a message. Firefox has screen capture add-ons which can also be used for this. When I used Windows, I always used this one.

I cleared all the cookies in my browser (IE 11) with no change. I've also tried the same 'test' with Chrome and the results are identical.

It happens on all threads on all sites, even my own FB group. Nothing new I can find that may have caused it. I've checked with both my FB account and my wife's FB account on both of our computers with the same results. With my account no right click menu pops up, with hers it's no problem, I can save any pic I want from any thread in any group so I believe it has to be an issue with my account.

I messed around some more and found another ??? In some threads I get the pop up menu on a few pics (very few) but in most others I don't. I called the owner of one I can't save and he has no blocking set on the pic.

I put in a FB support report on 2/25 and haven't heard a peep from them. is there any other way to contact them to find out if they have restricted my account?

The block of the right click on all sites points to a few things.

1. You installed or enabled some privacy security feature. Remember there are dozens of these so I will never guess you installed Noman's Privacy Plus.

2. Your Windows account is broken. Test this by creating a new local login account and test in your new account. Be aware that a broken Windows account is rarely fixed. Even Microsoft articles ABANDON BROKEN ACCOUNTs. If you need an example, read:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14039/windows-7-fix-corrupted-user-profile

Notice that the title of the Microsoft Article is how to fix, yet what Microsoft does is abandon the old account. Amazing.
