Question

Return my computer to newly purchased condition

Jun 9, 2015 10:54PM PDT

I was given a computer for my birthday, as mine is getting old. I've discovered that the computer was sold as being new, but is not, it has apparently been re-furbished. I am having all kinds of problems with the new one, and have decided to return it to the store. How do I eliminate all of my personal info before returning it? I'm not very tech savvy, so I need help with this. I saw something while exploring when I first received it that said it would restore the computer to the state it was in when purchased, but I can't find it now. The computer is an HP Laptop, (not a touch screen)computer with Windows 8.1. Thanks so much for the help!

Answer
Visit HP website

That's the support website and locate your model#. Then find the text on reloading the OS from the hidden partition, also known as "recovery". That way you remove your old OS and flush it out while re-installing the OS. Again, the procedure is found at HP, review and follow instructions. You may want to print them out for ease.

Newly purchased condition...

Hi Willy,
Thank you for your response and explanation. It was really great to find help so quickly!
I took care of business, returned the computer, and the store refunded the money without any question.
I was able to get an upgrade to a better processer (I was told), and a full TB hard drive instead of the lesser amount that I had on the original computer. Best of all, no increase in money spent.
Since I've had it, there haven't been any of the issues that I had with the original computer.
Thank you again Kees and Willy for your assistance!
I appreciate it!
