Retreiving old files from newly Formatted CDRW disc

Does anyone know whether it is possible to recover files that have been lost after Formatting a CDRW disc.
If it is possible can I download file recovery software or is such software only available for file recovery of files on Hard Disks and removable zip drives etc.
