Restrict email size in OE 6

Apr 16, 2005 9:33AM PDT

Does anyone know of a way to restrict the size of incomming emails using OE 6? Occaionally some one/a business/or spammer will send a large email, or a web page instead of just a link making me have to wait several minutes for a single message to d/l. Someone suggested that I could set a size limit in Message Rules, but that particular option is not available in Message Rules in my OE 6.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I am using Windows XP Home and OE 6

Thanks. Have a great day.

Something to try..

In OE, click on Tools, Message Rules, Mail.
Select New, and in section 1, scroll down to "Where message size is more than size". Check that.
Then in section 2, locate and check, "Delete from server".
Next in section 3, click on the word "size", and you should be given an option to select your preferred size limit.
Give the Rule a name, then OK your way out of all.

Sounds like this should work, but be aware that if a friend sends you a large picture file or other graphics, they may be deleted also.

Thanks chuck44, but that option isn't available in my particular OE 6.

Perhaps someone knows how I could add it to OE 6. If so, I would appreciate a heads-up.

It turns out...

that I had to select a message, open the Message menu, select Create Rule From Message, select the Size option, etc. Then deselect the "Where the message line contains people" option.

For some reason the Size option isn't accessable from the Tools menu on my OE 6.

Thanks. Have a great day.

Strange..

I have OE6 also, and the setting is available, but have to scroll down in box 1 to see it.
No matter as long as you got it to do what you want. Nice going.

I'm new to this XP Home SP 2 and still afraid to try some of the things I could do with ME. Wondering if the OE or IE can be downloaded on top of themselves to correct the problem w/o effecting the settings or anything.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Even Stranger..

I have the same OS, XP Home with SP2. The option is available here.
Maybe go to Windows Updates, and scan to see if you have the latest. But still thinking if you have SP2, you probably have the latest version of IE and OE.

Installing IE/OE again may work, but just personally, I try to avoid doing that except as a last resort for a serious problem.
Sorry, no real help to offer.
