Question

Restoring Chrome thumbnails

My Google Chrome is no longer showing thumbnails. Where the thumbnails should be, there are icons for things like yahoo, facebook, you tube, Amazon and so forth.

This just started happening 2 hours ago. I didn't make any changes except for downloading and installing a couple of PDF merge programs.
Can you please help me get my old Chrome back (with thumbnails).
Thank you in advance for any help.

Restoring Chrome thumbnails

What is the solution to this issue? Or is there none?

WORKED!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!! You're the only one who provided a suggestion that worked! Thanks!

Everyone else is full of **** and wasting people's time. Your suggestion actually worked. Although i would amend the wording one bit for a bit more clarity to:

Here is the solution.

1. Open a new tab
2. In the URL bar type: chrome://flags/
3. CTRL-F and type: Google local NTP
4. Choose the option of: Google local NTP
5. Set this feature to: 'Enabled'
6. Relaunch

That should restore your home page to the interface you're used to.

THAT WAS QUICK AND EASY

Thank you!!! Restored my thumbnails in a jiffy!!!

Thumbnails disappeared

All my thumbnails disappeared and will not come back. I have tried everything suggested on a googl search... Does anyone know how to get them back?

This old thread

Is now out of date. Chrome has changed a lot and I can't guess if you mean the speed dial or something else.

- Collapse -
I have the same issue

Today all my "speed dial" thumbnails are gone. I can't figure out how to get any of them back. Very annoying, any suggestions will help.

This thread is outdated.

And you have buried your new plea here. I didn't repeat the prior finding because you didn't tell us that is in play.

So what next? MANUALLY remove all of chrome and it's memories (how is all over the web), fresh install Chrome and it will work. At least it has for me.

Too much work for something I didn't break

So you're saying to restore Most Visited Icons feature, I need to uninstall and then reinstall Chrome? If I have to do that I will just use another browser, like Opera. Too much work to repair something I didn't break.

Thumbnails

Normally there were eight thumbnails on the google opening page...allowed you to click and go to the site...usually the most frequently visited... A couple weeks ago, four of them disappeared... tried many things to get them back.... no results. Then today, the last four disappeared. Any help would be appreciated or, if this is a permanent change, please let me know.

This is NOT the same issue as up top?

"no longer showing thumbnails. Where the thumbnails should be, there are icons for things like yahoo, facebook, you tube, Amazon and so forth."

Now you are write not only is the thumbnail gone but so is the icon.

There are OTHER reasons for that. This old thread is not about your new issue.

In short, don't bury new pleas in old threads. Especially if it's not the same issue.

-> That said a few times, if the icon is gone, why not make a new one?

Icons, Tabs, Folders...whatever...GONE

First off, R. Proffitt, shut up as you are NOT helping one bit!

Now, yesterday while just doing nothing but watching great lakes ship videos I opened a new tab and all of the 'folders' (tabs, icons, whatever they're called) for the 8 most recent or most visited sites I'd been to were gone. I have reset defaults, restarted Chrome, whatever I can think of to get them back; however they did not or will not come back. I did nothing to make them go away...how do I get them back?

Icons, Tabs, Folders Gone 9/7/2018

Cobbie_63 the same thing happened to me yesterday! I was browsing around and was called away for a bit, when I came back I opened a new tab and noticed all my thumbnails are gone. After resetting several times (and that's a PITA because I have to go around and sign back into all the stuff I had been signed into already since I blasted my cookies) I'm still stuck with no thumbnails. I'm not happy that it happened, but I am relieved that I'm not the only one. It looks like Google might have pushed some kind of update, although I have auto-update turned off and didn't initiate this change so I'm a bit confused as to this behavior. I tried on two other laptops with the same effect. One laptop I haven't used in over two weeks, but it exhibited the same problem. I then had my wife log into her email on the laptop (she has an account on the laptop) and she also saw no thumbnails.

I started having the EXACT same issue today... And I did nothing whatsoever different.

Icons, tabs folders ............ GONE

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday 8/6/18 and tried everything to get them to come back. I posted here and got no answer. I posted on CNET hoping they could help. Then later in the day I found out that Chrome had changed a lot of things so somehow I got a update of Chrome , but I do not like what then did. Yes I have the shortcuts, but more of them in little icon versions, new tabs on the top pages, etc. I wish I could tell you how to change Chrome but perhaps if you go to www.chrome.com/help and ask there they will tell you how to do it. It is just an update. Good Luck

Icons, Tabs, Folders Gone 9/7/2018

Same issue here. I noticed yesterday morning that they were missing and then about an hour later they were back. This morning they were missing again. Checked my wife's computer and same issue. Now, given that these are simply customizations of Google's web page (customized for each user signed in), would I be correct in assuming that Google has removed them at least temporarily for an update or maintenance? I've seen this issue before but this seems to be the longest period of time that they've been missing.

Got mine back today, finally

For me works

good day

Down the zoom , thats all

- Collapse -
downed to 30%...no good

Reduced the zoom down to 30% to no avail. And good thing, couldn't see anything at that small size...lol...

- Collapse -
downed_to_30% no good either

i tried many variations, also increased, removed theme, added theme. i did not uninstall chrome. i agree with previous post seems overkill for something that was probably broken by a forced WIN 10 or Chrome Update.

Same Issue

Cobbie_63, I have the same problem that just happened to me this morning.

It's not a zoom issue as I'm sure you're aware. I have seen my wife zoom the screen and lose 4 of the 8 thumbnails but never all of them.

That should restore your home page to the interface you're used to.

Hope this helps!

Restoring Chrome Thumbnails question.

I tried the solution but after step 3, I could not figure out how to do step 4. It was not obvious to me. Please help me understand what I am doing wrong. Thanks.
Can one of you people that made this work, please explain in simple words, what I need to do after step 3? HOW DO I "SET THIS FEATURE TO ENABLED" i do not see any button or anything else to allow me to do that. I must be the dumbest guy on this site! I have had and worked with computers since 1984 so I am not completely computer illiterate, but can someone please help me? Thanks.
