Question

Restore Time Capsule backup to new computer

Apr 13, 2012 8:56AM PDT

We had a Macbook fail on us and now we're trying to restore its Time Capsule backup to a new Macbook air. When we connect to the Time Capsule it doesn't show the original Macbook's backups. What am I missing?

The best time to have done a Restore would have been when

you first booted up the Macbook Air.

You would have been asked if you had any data that you wanted to transfer from a Mac or PC or Time Machine.

Can the MBA even see the Time Capsule?

Problem solved, sort of.

I finally figured out how/where to get into backups from the old computer, so we'll just retrieve selected files. I know that the best time to restore is out of the box, but we're stationed over seas and purchased the new computer while we were back in the US and weeks from being near the TC.

Since you responded...I have another question. Do you know how/where I can lookup how to set up the TC in the DHCP and NAT mode? I'm using an Internet Provider that requires a log-in through the web browser and they appear to be controlling access to a single MAC at a time. I can't figure out how to set the router up to enable multiple devices online at once.
