Restore points gone. . .

Jul 4, 2007 11:19AM PDT

Two desktop machines, one running XP Pro, one running XP Home. Both SP-2, fully patched and updated. I've never changed or adjusted the restore points. Before this, each machine had at least a month of restore points. The restore size is the default, 6%. Both drives have at least 50 Gig of hard disk space available. But all restore points are gone.

Side note, two laptops, both Pro SP-2 fully patched have restore points a month back.

They all have basically the same software. The Home desktop is my web server and it's on 24-7 and I always had a restore point every couple of days.

Any thoughts?

Some updates will do that.

The one thing you learn about System Restore is that it's as strong as the box XP came in.

But they have always been there. For them to suddenly be gone is strange. And the laptops are not affected. At first I thought it might be the Pro machine, IBM ThinkCentre, and some of the IBM specific updates. But the web machine, XP Home, is my home built.

I thought it might be one of the MS updates, but the two IBM laptops, with virtually the same software are not affected. One in particular, .Net Framework, is required for the IBM machines (for the IBM specific updates) might be the culprit. But the Home machine does not have it. And both laptops have it but they are not affected.

C'mon Bob, put the thinking cap on.

I just noticed the other post. I'll try the calendar fix and see what happens. Ok, I did, and the little program found two registry errors on the two affected macnines. Now to watch and wait.
