Restore from backup & auto-sync setup in Galaxy Note 2014?

by iridescentRain / December 27, 2013 6:15 PM PST

Hello.

My girlfriend just got a Samsung Galaxy Note (2014 edition) and wanted to restore from her Samsung Galaxy S3 backup. She has her S3 configured to auto-backup, and she set up her Note with the same Google e-mail address and password. However, when she goes to Settings > General > Cloud and taps on "Restore from backup" (or whatever the option's called; I can't remember right now), it says "Recovering information..." or "Looking for data..." or something to that effect, stays there for a while, and eventually stops trying. What are we doing wrong?

Also, once she's successfully restored from backup, how can she set her S3 and Note up so they auto-sync whenever theyre connected to the internet?

Thanks for any help!

Answer
Sounds like the old "I want to sync my Android" question
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / December 28, 2013 5:21 AM PST

As this OS is not from Samsung and there are many hurdles I don't expect sync to work as nicely as it could. That is we would have to cover this from app to app and if the OS version differs then I expect no success here. That doesn't mean we can't look at other sync methods but as this is volunteer I think you are going to have to make a choice. That is, ask others to discuss Android sync issues and ideas or just make it a warranty issue and demand Samsung make good.

I thought you might write some surprise at this. As the office I work at works on apps, I see folk all the time taken aback at this area. It's not working well and was not a feature built-in to the OS. Add apps that are not the same or apps that are not built to sync and folk that are new to Android will burst into flames over this.

If you want to discuss this area I can, but if you want Samsung to fix sync, be sure to tell them so by asking for a fix today and if not, return what does not work?
