restetting Vista to original factory setting

Aug 5, 2008 11:28AM PDT

How do I reset Vista to original factory setting? I know there is a way in Windows XP. When I bought my PC it was a floor model and the clerk said they have to reset it to original factory setting, so whatever it was on from being used by costumers will be wiped out. I saved my programs and works on a external hard drive and want to have a little as possible on my main drive.
Any help would be appreciated.

Name the make/model...

Some have a hidden partition from which you may boot to perform a system recovery operation, while others limit you to burning a DVD from that partition, then using it. Regardless, the options and process vary from model to model.

Let us know.

during boot when you see the bios logos and all what not usually I press F10
If you do not see the repairing tool then tap F8 during bios logos and you should see a repair option.

Some other models do it differently. The make and model is needed to assist.

You can click here for information about burning/ordering a set of system recovery discs, then click here for information on completing the process. The article references Windows XP, but the process is more or less the same.

Hope this helps,

Yes, I got the disks made when i got the PC. So far so good. I tried to reset it but it asked which program I wan to reset. I would like to reset to be like when I got it. What I want is to store my stuff on a speparate hard drive and keep the main as clean as possible. Getting much freeze ups and lags. Using registry cleaners but still not as it was. Only 6 months old the Pc.
