I run Xp home edition with SP2. Recently, and very intermittently I might add, I am experiencing problems when doing a normal restart. The problem is not the shutting down side of the restart but the actual rebooting back to the Welcome screen.
At the point where the machine is supposed to reboot it just hangs after turning back on and appears to be reading the DVD drive constantly and not rebooting. I get the DVD light blinking constantly and the light sequences for the on, paging, DVD go into a repeatative pattern and nothing happens??
The weird part about this is that if I then turn off the box manually, wait five mins and turn back on the rebooting process works normally and the machine reboots correctly to the welcome screen..
I do use hybernation as a tool and this works successfully but I was wondering if this feature may have some affect on the above.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is driving to despair.
