Restart when connecting to WiFi

Sep 19, 2004 7:14AM PDT

Laptop with XP Pro-SP1+ most Critical updates, Nav 2003, Spybot SD, Adaware SE (all with the latest update)

Check with Online scanner - result clean.

I have 2 wireless connection available.

Problem:
Whenever I connected to one of the Wireless and start browsing or try to send email, the Laptop Restart.

Laptop operating normally when NOT connected or with the other Wifi connection and also when using Wired connection.... Only those particular Wifi connection.

The Wifi currently is unprotected (No encryption etc.)

Question: Why that happened? and How can I fixed it.
Is that possible someone else restart my Laptop from other pc/laptop in the WiFi LAN?

Thank You

"Whenever I connected to one of the Wireless and start browsing or try to send email, the Laptop Restart."

That's usually a clue that the laptop has been installed with a retail copy of XP and ... is in need of some motherboard/pc-card/other type drivers or... the bios is out of date.

You also didn't share what gets created in the EVENT VIEWER when it reboots and as such kept that clue.

Tell more.

Additional info

The Laptop is a tablet PC, with the windows OS included (is this what you called OEM?) + onboard WiFi (Centrino?)

I have setup an access point using linksys wireless router.. its works normally.

My friend in other house (side by side), have an access point using the same type of Linksys wireless router.

Both have NO protection enable, in the purpose to simplify 'testing'

When I choose his WiFi, I can connect and browse, but only for a moment.. before it get restarted.

Note: When He get connected to his own or through my WiFi AP, he can browse the internet normally.

I haven't look into the Event Viewer yet, because I'll have to go out of town for a few days.

Thank You

In that case its a warranty issue.

An "oem" install would have the proper motherboard drivers and as such you must deal with the notebook's maker over the non-functioning pc-card slot.

I didn't use the pc card slot, instead I use the USB (also from Linksys)

And everything is work normally when connected to my own AP + I just tried to connect to a public Hotspot with no problem...

I'll be back in the few days, I've to go now.

Thank You very much...
