Question

Responsive or Mobile Website? Which is better for SEO

Apr 23, 2015 11:37PM PDT

Hi,

I have a responsive website - http://calanceus.com/

I need to know if a responsive website is considered mobile friendly by Google as now Google ranks websites in searches results on mobiles based on their mobile friendliness. And is a redirection to m.calanceus.com version of the URL required?

Responsive web design means that you don't have separate mobile, tablet, and PC versions of your site, the site adapts to whatever size screen it's being displayed on. Regardless of what device a visitor is using to access your site, they will see all of the contents you have to offer and they will see it in readable way.
Responsive websites have more factors which make it more better then mobile friendly sites like:
One website,many devices.
Easier to manage.
Thats why responsive web design is better for seo as compared to only mobile friendly.

As Sovereign replied, you don't need to redirect your website to m.calanceus.com

Your responsive design would be consider as mobile friendly if it fulfill all these requirements -

"Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash.
Uses text that is readable without zooming.
Sizes content to the screen so users don't have to scroll horizontally or zoom.
Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped
."

Responsive website is better for SEO as responsive websites are already responsive to the mobile phone browsers. There is no need for a separate mobile website. Else, You can try Mobile application for the smartphones if you are providing the services through the website.

If the website is responsive, it is not necessary that it is mobile friendly. The reason behind this is that some people don't want to deliver the same load to mobile website as that of desktop or laptop site. Good recomendation is to go with responsive website for SEO.
