Question

Resetting forgotten user password on Lenovo laptop windows 7

Aug 28, 2018 3:40AM PDT

I’ve forgotten my password and I only have 1 account on my computer. I’m following the procedure to reset my password by forcing a system start up
Repair and changing some files so that I can access command prompt from the normal login menu. I’m at step 4 (link to procedure below). The background start up repair window pops up, but the front pop up window that has the drop down arrow that lets me enter word pad and complete the process never appears. Where do I go from here? Thanks for your help

I used the Windows 10 bootable USB stick I made with the (google this) Microsoft Media Creation Utility to use the utilman.exe trick.

For W7 the old NTPASSWD (see google for boot and use instructions) seems fine as well.
