I rarely have to do this as the typical fix is remove the BIOS battery and it will clear the CMOS, also known as the BIOS. You can use the CMOS "clearing pins" as well exactly for this purpose, just read/review the manual. However, this advise readily is used for DESKTOPS and may not be as easy for laptops.
When a laptop requires a BIOS password reset, opening the laptop is difficult on some models. However, some do provide access to the CMOS clearing pins after removing(unscrewing) an access cover. Others, unfortunately require a whole cover or entire bottom for access. Even then CMOS clearing pins may not be pins, but *pads* instead doing the same task. Alas, the CMOS battery itself maybe soldered in and not so removable, unless skilled. Even so, laptops tend to be more protective of their BIOS contents or even use a separate IC chip for security reasons, thus a s/w pgm. is used.
BIOS password pgms. can be had, but a quick resource is the Hirens BootCD. Google for a reputable file source, burn to disc/flash drive, typical is disc. Hirens even supplies the whole burning process build-in cmd. and pgm., only a blank CD be needed. Once completed, boot from the disc and access the DOS pgms. and/or locate BIOS or passwords reset pgms.. Become familiar with the task but it is generous to new users, just practice awhile to get a feel. Overall you quickly learn just use common sense.
*NOTE* Hirens BootCD has numerous help pgms, that alone is helpful at a later time.
