Research Question-How Many Current 3G Subscribers / Provider

Apr 26, 2005 4:06AM PDT

I would appreciate any help or referring articles that can tell me the current data customers for the following providers:

1. Verizon's CDMA EV-DO service (both phone and data card - if separate, even better)
2. Sprint PCS' current CDMA 1xRTT service (both phone and data card as above)
3. Cingular Wireless' UMTS service (which is available in six markets so far)
4. T-Mobile's nationwide HotSpot service ($29.99 for unlimited access at over 5,400 locations nationwide)

And finally (if possible), approximately how many regular users of Wi-Fi not subscribing to T-Mobile's HotSpot serice.

The latest nationwide numbers would be great. Also is there any way that the data can be extrapolated for a particular market? Thank you for your help!

Just asking.

Did you call each company and ask them?

No, Did Not Know Exactly Who to Call at Each Company

Do you know who I should call - # & name/department?

Thanks!

Hint: 411.

But that's being a little cruel. I can assure you that such research is readily available for some small suitcase of money. It is not freely available and what is free is not reliable.

Have you done such research before?

Bob, Yes I Have...

Bob,

I have done this type of research before and what I have found is that people in the industry will post their numbers as long as they are not top secret. The subscriber numbers are usually released somewhere in a press conference or somwhere deep in quarterly reports.

Newsletters or other forms of communication to shareholders also may mention it's success. People in the industry and in the know read boards such as these and that is why I have posted this request on them.

And sometimes the most accurate information is free - just might not be intentional.

There's your direction.

Get to the Investor links on each company and start reading. Use google's site:verizon.com to narrow the search.

That is what I have been doing including posting on their boards as well. Reading though so much is quite daunting though, but that's what I have been doing for about 2 hrs. before I put up this post.

Thank you for the Google search tip, it seems to be a good filter. I'll be using that nifty feature again.
