It only takes a few visits at "bad" sites to infest a machine...But luckily, as long as you use good sense and good removal tools, you should be able to clean out the junk and return to safety again.
Be sure to scan the machine in both "normal" Windows and in "Safe Mode" with those tools. Use them all...the antivirus PLUS the spyware removal tools and make sure they're all updated and current. Some trojans can stealth themselves and keep returning again when you reboot.
When you no longer find anything, you should be fine...Still, it's good to scan frequently just to be sure.
Hope this helps.

Experienced user that is a bit internet paranoid
I am sorry if this is not the right forum for this question, but I need a bit of reassurance. I make it a habit of visiting only reputable websites such as google, microsoft, sun, usatoday, etc. I know, it does not sound like much fun. Anyway, I am a bit concerned because a friend of mine borrowed my computer and went to a disreputable site (soft porn). I cleared my cookies, cleared the history, and ran MS Antispyware, Ad aware, and spybot S&D. What could a website do to my machine that could cause a problem (keylogger, trojan horse, etc) when it is just visited? Thank you. Please feel free to tell me to get a life if I need to stop worrying about this stuff. BTW - I do have a hardware firewall and NIS 2005 installed.
