Question

ReplayTV and Samsung TV UN40C6300

Sep 10, 2015 5:12PM PDT

I used to own a ReplayTV with Commerical Advance and am currently without a DVR. I also canceled cable. I recently bought a Mohu Leaf and can get plenty of digital channels. I discovered that with my Samsung TV UN40C6300, I can set the TV to actually change channels on its own, using a timer function. So here's my geek question for you fellow geek techies:

Could you use a Mohu Leaf (or another HDTV OTA tuner) connected to a DVR (such as a ReplayTV), and then connect it to your Samsung, and use the Samsung's timer function to change channels? That way, you could set the TV to change channels, and use the DVR on a default channel without any programming guide information, and have it capture the HDTV signal. Hope I'm making sense. I wish I had a DVR to test this out, but I don't. What do you all think?

I don't see how that would work.

I don't see why this wouldn't work.

How it would work: Right now the TV is getting its signal from the Mohu Leaf. I could set the timer within the Samsung TV to change to the channel I want. That is, right now, I can go within the Samsung TV onscreen programming guide, and tell it to, for example, switch to channel 7 at 7 pm every Friday night. The Samsung would change every Friday night at 7 pm.

Then I'd connect the coaxial from the TV to the coaxial input on the replay, and then connect the output from the coaxial to the Mohu Leaf, so the signal would pass through the ReplayTV.

Then I'd tell the Replay TV to record every Friday night at 7 pm. I wouldn't specify the channel and there wouldn't be a programming guide. But the Replay would manually record every Friday night at 7 pm, capturing the signal that came through the coaxial cable.

Why could this not work? Happy

Still don't see how the TV is playing a role.

The TV has no video output save the video screen so again I don't get how the TV settings matter here.

Still looks like no to me.
