Replacing ethernet cables

Oct 17, 2004 2:59AM PDT

I recently had a problem with not being able to get online on my home network....I narrowed the problem down to my ethernet cables...Has anyone else had to replace any cabling? Is this common or something unusual?

Yes. The common cable is made from solid wire strands and to cut costs (these are very economical items) the usual cable doesn't employ any features to keep a wire from being yanked out of the connector or to keep the user from bending the solid wire cable too much.

Nothing is wrong with the design.

Thanks for the info...Based on what you said, It doesn't make any sense to buy higher priced cables if they all have the same characteristics, or would you disagree?

Not much higher..

The Monster Cables are about as high as I see the price, but we outfitted the last office from compgeeks and the cables were under 2 bucks to under 5 bucks... It's sad to see some of these same cables for 15 to 30 bucks in the full retro-retail stores.
