Replacing a graphics card

Jul 15, 2009 8:31AM PDT

I'm looking to upgrade my NVidia GeForce 8300 GS to something much better. I have a 650 watt power supply according to best buy. I went to best buy with my computer model number (a6244n) to find that out and they told me to get a new graphics card I would need a new power source but the graphics card I want (NVidia GeForce 9800GT) only requires 400 watts and they went on about the GCI blah blah blah. I don't know a whole lot about the inside of the computer but wouldn't taking out the old NVidia and putting in the new NVidia if I have enough wattage for it work?

That model number looks like an HP

When you are inside the computer to change the video card, check the power supply for yourself. It will be marked on the nameplate what the power rating is. Unless you have had the power supply changed, I would doubt it is a 650 watt unit from HP. Just MHO, though.
