Question

Replace hdd for a sdd, what's the best option?

Dec 24, 2014 12:56AM PST

Hi everyone! Merry Christmass!! I know maybe it isn't a good/appropiate time to ask for your help but, i need it xD. The thing is, my pc's internal hdd seems to be failing - or at least that's what I think - I've recived a few error messages, despite the fact that the smart feature, as well as any test I've run, says everything's all rigth, but the error messages appear, from time to time, so I've been considering to get a new one, specifically one of those ssd, but there are many options in the market and I'm not familiar with these ssds. So far I've found that apparently the best one as well as the expensive one, would be the samsung 850 pro, so I'm asking you; what do you think? is this really the best option? what about crucial, kingston or sandisk? Hope you can help me, and again MERRY CHRISTMASS TO ALL OF YOU!!!!

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for, I totally forgot about tom's hardware site lol. Well, after giving a first look at the chart they offer, it seems that what I read was right and apparently the samsung 850 pro would be the wiser/better option, but again, it is more expensive too, comparing to it's competitors, including the samsung evo line, which happens to be the one they recommend - the evo - in terms of price/quality, it also says that the crucial mx 100, 500 would be a good choice too, and the difference in price from one to another is just about $40, i.e 840 evo 256gb is $131, 87, while the mx100 256 is 104, 99, the mx 500 240gb is $97, 93...So I guess now is all up to me to decide which one to buy...by the way, kingstons are the cheapest of all, and they're not in the chart, are they worthless?. Thanks a lot again man, and merry christmass!!

We had a travel laptop at the office (one of those you won't cry over losing) and its HDD was giving up signs it was about to go south. So we went cheaper with the M500 from tom's list and now folk pick that one up first.

So the basic advice is SDD beats HDD.
