Question

Replace earbuds plug ?

Aug 28, 2011 10:40PM PDT

I know what your thinking..just replace the set. Here's the deal. A friend of mine showed me his new 'MONSTER beats' earbuds that he was about to throw away.... Apparently the plug-in was somehow cleanly sliced off. I said that i'd take them off his hands. I researched this brand. They are highly rated with a starting price of approx $150. Check it out. (My favorite brand of earbud these days would be 'Skullcandy') Would like to try out this Monster brand (and save myself $150 in the process) so Id like to replace the plug-in. The wire is flat with 3 fine contact wires. Are there replacement plugs available for this size ? CNET is the BEST place to ask. thanks all

But your average electronics technician will use another plug from another headphone and splice the wires. This is not so much a part but a skill the technician learned.

Just chop the plug off a pair of monoprice.com or skullcandy buds. Monoprice sells decent quality buds for 2-3 dollars a piece.

Thanks for the feedback all buI should expand on my question

Soldering a new plug would not be a problem in general terms. Im concerned about the steadfastness of a new plug attached to these buds. How could it be secured enough to withstand normal tugging and constant tension applied through everyday use?

And again

This is a skill that the technician uses to not nick the strands and then shrink wrap the finished work. Again, I never found this to be a part but a skill of the repair tech.
