Question

repeated hard drive failures lenovo ideapad

Apr 25, 2015 10:05AM PDT

So I have a lenovo ideapad n586 running windows 8.1 a few weeks ago it became unable to boot getting stuck on a screen saying "repairing disk errors" replaced the hard drive and then a couple of days later it wouldnt boot again now saying "restoring previous version of windows" the fan seems to be working and the vents are clear. Any idea what could be the cause?

Answer
That message doesn't sound like HD failure

It sounds more like a failed Windows update. I've seen that a number of times and the causes are many. Quite often it's when the update is interrupted for some reason. In that case, you re-visit Windows update and try again. There should be a log showing the failed attempt but I don't where where it is in Win8.

I'm making one big assumption that you reloaded the OS. The error can be one of those odd OS failures. Or malware.
