Repair XP Command

Mar 14, 2004 3:21AM PST

I'm getting a "Setup Application Error".
"This application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000005)".

"Only part of a readprocessmemory or a writeprocessmemory request was completed".

These errors were from trying to install plug-ins to a previously installed program. I'm assuming this is a Windows error and I was going to try a repair from the XP disk...but I can't remember the command!

Thanks

You didn't say.

a. The application in question.
b. The code C0000005 is an access violation. Very common when not an user with proper rights or when said program is trying to alter protected registry entries or files.

The command we know is unlikely to fix this issue. And your lack of details makes resolution and suggestions difficult.

Just above each post's editing box is this passage:
Tip: If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution.

Tell more, get more.

Admin...

That's not a known "administrator" logon. Beyond that, its possible to create access violations because even being an administrator or in the administrator group does not over-ride "rights" or security items.

If your antivirus is enabled, it could be stepping in to prevent system damage as well.

I'd try the log on as "administrator" or add this user to the aministrator group to try again and disable firewall/av during the install (disconnect from the internet...)

I'd reboot prior to the install and make sure that the dvd software was not run prior to the install since this sometimes "locks" files and causes the issue.

**************Sorry, what's not a known administrator logon? I'm saying that I'm logged on as administrator.

Beyond that, its possible to create access violations because even being an administrator or in the administrator group does not over-ride "rights" or security items.

***************Okay.

If your antivirus is enabled, it could be stepping in to prevent system damage as well.

***************I run EnditAll2 prior to any install. Everything non-essential is off including AV. I don't run a software firewall, I use a router.

I'd try the log on as "administrator" or add this user to the aministrator group to try again and disable firewall/av during the install (disconnect from the internet...)

***************Already done this.

I'd reboot prior to the install and make sure that the dvd software was not run prior to the install since this sometimes "locks" files and causes the issue.

***************Don't run DVD software prior to what install?

I also did a Sys Restore to yesterdays XP configuration thinking that maybe the install of Studio 9 may have had something to do with this. After the Sys Restore I placed the Premium DVD in to see if this helped. I first closed all apps/programs running in the background. Still received the same error. Apparently this error is independent or doesn?t have anything to do with the Studio 9 install.

You have to put CD first in the boot order - HD second - then . . .
Boot from from the XP CD:
Your hardware will be investigated.
1st screen - Windows loads files.
2nd screen - Welcome to Setup
Press 'Enter' to setup XP. (NOT 'R' to repair)
3rd screen - Licence conditions. Press F8 to accept.
4th screen - Select 'R' to repair the installed Windows.
This will appear to be a full install but it isn't. In about 30 minutes XP will reboot into your old desktop, and all your old files should still be available.
Unfortunately, SP1 and any other updates will have to be re-installed. I hope you burnt them all to a CD!

There will be several black screens during the repair, but don't worry, and you may get warnings that some drivers have not passed Windows logo testing but if they worked OK before - select 'Install'
On the reboot ignore the "Press any key to reboot from the CD" and XP will reboot after a few seconds.

It would be a help to other people, if you would say what you did to fix the problem.

Never let it be said that the village idiot can?t preserver. The disks do look identical in Win Explorer.

Yes I did read the install instructions for the Premium DVD. When I installed S9 I didn?t install the S9 bonus DVD. Instead I tried to install the Premium DVD?having read that the Bonus DVD needed to be uninstalled. So I figured I?d skip this step, not install the Bonus and install Premium. This is when I got the setup error.

Ok

I figured it was a windows error caused possibly by S9 install, so I did a Sys Restore back to yesterday. Then I couldn?t uninstall S8 again so I had to do a repair before S8 would let me uninstall it. Okay fine S8 uninstalled.

Reinstalled S9 W/9.04 patch and HFX Pro patch and installed the Bonus DVD. Premium DVD would still not install. It wanted to Modify, Repair or Uninstall.

I went into Windows Add/Remove programs and uninstalled the Bonus DVD. Then the Premium DVD installed. If it weren?t for watching the content as it installed, I?d swear it was the Bonus DVD again. The two look exactly alike via Win Explorer. Even the Premium DVD thought it was the Bonus DVD when it wanted to Modify, Repair or Uninstall itself.

According to the Premium DVD install directions on the web board, I didn?t think I was doing anything wrong.

Never a dull moment with Studio

In my case the correct install for the Premium DVD should have been.

1. Install S9
2. Install Bonus DVD
3. Uninstall Bonus DVD
4. Install Premium DVD

This is the install order it took for me to have a successful install of the Premium DVD.
