Repair or replace?

Jun 11, 2009 2:51PM PDT

My 7-year old Panasonic DV-203D broke about 3 years ago. Now that I want to upload my Mini-DV tapes to my PC so I can edit them, I need something to play my archival footage (and maybe even shoot new footage on). Right now it just flashes "DEW DETECTED", and it took about 30 tries to get it to eject the tape that has been stuck in there since it broke.

I'm on a really tight budget right now. If I had the money I'd buy a new Canon Vixia HV30. Alas, I have not. So either I can spend $250 and buy a Canon ZR960 or repair what I have.

Is camcorder repair generally nearly as expensive as buying a replacement?
