Question

Repair Dead Micron PC TransPort GX, Or Get Rid Of?

May 15, 2015 8:21PM PDT

I am thinking about throwing away a computer I got back in 2009. I should not have bought this computer.

It has a broken LCD. Otherwise it would make a perfect computer for Windows XP games and software. (I still should not have bought it.)

The first thing to do before doing any thing else is to buy a power supply. How do I find out which one to use?

Does the replacement LCD still exist?

For a while I decided against fixing it, or making it a very low priority. Now I want to either repair it or get rid of it lol. 6 years of not doing any thing about it is enough time procrastinating.

The reason why I thought this computer has hard to find parts is that "MicronPC" seems to be a unfamiliar computer company. However, they are related to the Micron RAM company. Now that I know this, it would be a shame to not be able to fix this rare computer.

But do the replacement parts not exist any more?

You might find the parts on ebay but given new laptops are down to 200 bucks now I find repair to rarely happen today.

It Works! Which Hard Drive And Ram?
May 28, 2015 2:58AM PDT

I actually found a Micron Power Supply. It is supposed to be a Micron GX3, not GX. But the power supply still works for it.

AND I found a replacement screen! I made sure it was the Correct one. I replaced the LCD screen successfully. It is the first time I had ever done that.

I powered on and it has no internal RAM. It does have two slots for RAM which explains why the fan(s) worked but nothing else happened.

After I installed a RAM module, (also made by Micron lol) I saw the BIOS Splash Screen which means that the LCD works and is installed successfully!

Now onto the next two things: I want to get as large of a hard drive as possible, but I am not sure which one is the maximum size?

And what about RAM? What is the maximum RAM for it? Besides obviously using Micron RAM for a Micron computer, how can I found the type of RAM to use?
