Question

renaming multiple audio files in iutnes

Feb 29, 2016 4:21PM PST

A lot of my files have numbers in front of them (track numbers) or dashes or similar characters in front of them. I was wondering if there was a way of renaming them in bunches so that it is just the mane of the song and/or track and not the track number or dashes. My mind sweats at having to rename each and everyone separately.

Thanks in advance for our help.

Answer
I left mine as is. Why?

Since they all played fine and the album name was correct I left them alone. Sure I'll change one now and then but fixing them all? Nope.

Any autofix app usually does other changes so I don't use those.

reason for renaming
Mar 1, 2016 12:17PM PST

I am closing in on about 300 gbs of songs and when I add new ones I would like to be able to quickly find them to add them to playlists as opposed to trying to remember if it had a track number in front of it or a dash, etc.
I should mention that this isn't necessarily a iTunes question as they could be renamed in the folder I have on my hard drive before being added to Itunes, preferably if could be done that way actually.

And there are plenty of file renamers.

But as it's in iTunes renaming will really mess this up. Folk do this and then complain of duplicates.

For me, it's something I take care of when I feel like it. Some want it fixed now which means a lot of work. That is, if you haven't figured it out, there is no magic software to autofix this.
