Removing Spyware from my home computer

Dec 28, 2005 5:01AM PST

My desktop computer has been infected with spywares recently, and I have tried free softwares like Adware and Microsoft's AntiSpyware Beta to clean my machine. Apparently, I was not able to clean my desktop completely. I do see a blackbox warning on my desktop reading '' your computer has been infected with spywares'' every time I open the computer. I have also noted that the machine has been awfully slow.

What should I do now? I am bit reluctant to buy commercial spyware products for anumber of reasons. I am also wondering if I should try some sort of system restore to clean all the spywares.

I am new to this forum. So any help would be hugely appreciated.

I can not remember if I have seen the exact wordings as I found on the link, but I think you seem to have the right diagnosis. What is next then?

Thank you.

You'll have to follow the directions

on that link to remove it. IF you need help, I think that Bleeping Computer, who wrote that tutorial may help you if you ask but they are extremely busy as is everybody else that does malware removal. If you start at the beginning and do everything as posted, it should help you.

Tutorial

Some of that tutorial may be outdated. It may not work with new variants. You did not give us much info on your OS. If you use those instructions for using CleanUp! note:
There have been some recent problems. Do NOT run this program if you have XP Professional 64 bit edition. If you're unsure use CCleaner instead.
You can download: CCleaner
from one of the following locations:
http://www.ccleaner.com/
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner.html

Once installed, launch CCleaner:
Do not change any settings, except to make sure on the Options tab>Advanced ''Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours'' is NOT checked.
Click Run Cleaner (bottom right). When finished> Exit (top right) (reboot)
