Removing history tracks

Sep 25, 2004 7:25AM PDT

I'm new to this site but need some help. I have a new Dell computer that uses Windows XP. I want to delete my history tracks on my system. I have read the other messages about how to do this but I have another problem. I actually date a network administrator who knows exactly what to do if he wants to check my surfing history and I would like to keep some of those things private. Any advise on how to handle this one? I'm a little nervous about removing anything for fear that I will totally mess something up. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

ajs,

Well, if this computer is YOURS, a personal computer at home, then you can lock anyone out that you want to. Set the computer up so no one else can use it unless they log in with an appropriate user name. But that very action will cause questions. It's your choice. If it's a work computer, on a network, then that's a different issue and your job may be at issue.

But the easy answer is to NOT visit any sites that might be questionable.

By the way, Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware Personal now have the ability to erase most of the various "tracks" on your computer.

Thanks for the help. By the way, it isn't objectionable material, just a sense of privacy. As a network admin. he knows much more about computers than I do. I just want to protect my privacy at this point. Thanks again!

There are lots of utilities doing this also. A well known one is window washer; see http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=window+washer

Do it yourself:
- Clean Temporary Internet Files from IE
- Clean history from IE
- Clean cookies from Explorer (also the copies left in TIF!)
- Delete index.dat files with Moveonboot

Or use Mozilla or Firefox to browse: it has clear cache, clear history and clear cookies buttons and, afaik, no index.dat files.

Happy dating!

I typed up quite a bit about 'history' concerning Explorer and disk cleanup, but then canceled. Your boyfriend? Owner(s)of the computer? Administrator?

Then I thought about the kids who have posted about their parents snooping to find out where they post.
Hmmm.....how old should kids be before......and what about these people who slick talk kids.....
