removing back of rear-projection TV?

Sep 23, 2005 10:22AM PDT

I'm looking at a used 55" Toshiba rear-projection TV, and I want to fit it through 30" doors, but it's 33" deep. The owners said that the back can be removed (it looks like plastic/fiberglass and sounds hollow) and it contains the mirrors for the projection. If I remove this, can I put it back on without knocking the picture out of alignment?

Yes

There were a few guys I knew that made a great deal of money on the side taking apart big screen TV's to enable them to get through doorways or up/down stairs.
If it's just the back plate that needs to be removed, chances are that will only be a cover with a mirror, the 3 guns will not be affected by this, unless it doesn't get screwed back on correctly.

Don't forget you may loose the warrante by doing this, manufactures can get sticky when non authorized people start opening up their equipment, even just to fit it through a doorway.
