Removing all things AOL Grif

Aug 31, 2005 10:50PM PDT

Found a posting from Toni giving excellent instructions on how to remove Aol.
Just wondered what is the best way to remove the drivers. Via Add-remove programmes/their own uninstall application/or hardware devices in safe mode.

Obviously will need new email service. Not sure but if I have not misunderstood, I think that Google provides a free email service called Gmail.

Have you heard of it. Sorry to sound so vague but I haven't really used any browsers or email other than AOL. Thanks marg.

For E-mail Check Around...

First, your new ISP may already supply an e-mail service which can be downloaded using a POP3 mail program such as Outlook, etc.

Gmail seems to be a fairly good Free system with POP3 access but you must be "invited" to sign up. If you've got a mobile phone that receives text messaging, here is a link that will allow you to sign up with Gmail:

https://www.google.com/accounts/SmsMailSignup1

There are a number of e-mail services available for free. I use Yahoo Mail! at the link below as well as a number of others. Yahoo Mail is basically webmail although you can purchase the "Plus" version which then allows it to be POP3 accessible as well. Simply click on the link below, then click on the "Mail" icon in the upper right, then sign up and you've got a Free online e-mail service with 250 MB of mail storage.

Some folks use Hotmail and it's free too. Unfortunately, I've found it to be a little glitchy. Lots of others are available too but you'll need to check around.

Hope this helps.

removing AOL
Sep 2, 2005 7:03AM PDT

If you use ADD/REMOVE to remove AOL, make sure you remove all versions or it will come back and interfere with any new isp you get. I started with MSN and changed to AOL. System crashed and I had to re-format hard drive. Then I switched from AOL to a local isp (surfside). Again AOL invaded all my programs and wouldn't let go. I had to re-format hard drive again. I have since switched to Adelphia with no problems.
