Removing a HD

I need to store some files on my secondary (internal) HD so I can reinstall Windows XP, but I am worried that removing the drive will cause me to lose the data, or the HD itself. What are the dangers of temporarily removing an internal HD and what precautions should I take, if any?

You only have to read these forums to learn that hard disks don't make stellar backups. If some file is important to you, then put it on DVDRW, CDRW or something else and have more than 1 copy.

It is that simple.
