We note the occasion google about XP TAKE PERMISSIONS all the time here. Have you tried that and why do you think its a hardware issue?
Yes, your PC may not boot up if you pull the power to that drive. Nothing busted there.
I had a new hard drive installed and my prev hard was made the slave (secondary) drive F. When the slave drive was my main drive it was password protected in XP due to being the administrator. I use my F drive for storage only and the "Owner" folder cannot be accessed because I never removed the password protection from it before adding new drive. Never created any problems but My virus guard tells me there is a virus in my F drive "Owners" folder. Cant delete it because access is denied. Tried disconecting power to F drive but PC wouldnt boot up again. I think I need to move a switch on my C drive or change settings. I am not up to speed with hardware stuff but can someone tell me how to remove the F drive totally or remove the password on it. No start up files a re left on my F drive.
