Remove Google Chrome

Mar 28, 2010 7:41PM PDT

Hello Everyone!
I have W7/Firefox 3.6
I have downloaded Google Earth 5. It came with Google Chrome by default. I have tried to remove Google Chrome but I am told that it is open in a file or folder. I have closed my browser - firefox - and checked the programmes running but it does not appear as a named process running.
I have checked in "run" and %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google. I tried uninstalling but am told it is open and can't be uninstalled.
I tried Run/msconfig - but it does not appear in the lists of Startup or Services.
The same applies for a manual remove through Start/Control Panel/Google Chrome.
The same problem arises when I put "Google Chrome" into search, and when 'uninstall' shows and I click it, I have the same message.
I would like to know where Google Chrome is open so that I can shut the "programme"/Window/File etc and get rid of Chrome.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Colinito

Look for any Google Updater services
Mar 28, 2010 9:04PM PDT

I would look in the Services Console for any Google Updater service or any other Google service, and disable them. Reboot and try again.

Alternatives;

1] Did you try Win 7's System Restore?

2] In the Start menu, does the Google shortcut folder hold any links to Uninstall?

3] Use the Task Manager Processes tab to see what Google processes are running and stop them.

Remove Google Chrome / Look for any Google Updater services

Hello again Mark,
First answer, was successful!
Run/msconfig/Services - uncheck(untick) Google update service and google software updater. Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Google Chrome - uninstall - result = successful!

Thanks again. (Details kept in my "come-in-handy" file!)

Both you and Bob have been of great assistance over time, thanks to you both.

I shall now stop tracking this thread, and consider it closed.

How to uninstall google chrome
Jun 12, 2012 9:53PM PDT

i have had the same problem uninstalling google chrome, an error box popped up telling me to close google chrome. i opened my task manager and made sure everything googlechrome related was closed but yet the error message still cmae up.
if you are using windows 7 this is how to remove it. go to the bottom left hand corner (where the date and time is displayed) and click on the arrow and a box should appear. (this is to display all of the icons) there should be a little google chrome icon. unpin this and try uninstalling again.

let me know if it works for you too.
