Remote Problem: BN59-00850A

by JAS3473 / July 16, 2010 1:26 AM PDT

The remote that came with my LED TV (UN40B6000) has stopped working after 6 months. The only apparent effect it now has is to cause the indicator light at the base of the TV to blink rapidly. This occurs continuously whenever the remote is pointed at the TV, even if the remote is not being held. I have replaced the batteries, with the same result. I looked for another reset option on the remote, but could not find any.

The good news is that (1) the remote for the Samsung BD player can control the TV and (2) it seems a replacement remote should be inexpensive and readily available.

JAS3473,

It almost sounds as if a button is stuck. You might try "massaging" each button to see if this issue stops as a result.

Remotes are available at Samsungparts.com, and the one for your specific unit, if I'm not mistaken, is here:

http://www.samsungparts.com/Products/Parts_and_Accessories/PID-BN59-00850A.aspx

If you have any questions, you can also reach our parts department at 800-627-4368.

Does that help?

A perfect diagnosis by HDTech - it was a stuck button! The remote is now working with all functions.

I had inspected the buttons, earlier, and they all appeared in the right position, when viewed from the top. However, when I looked at the remote from the side, one of the buttons was not aligned on its top edge. I "massaged" it and it immediately popped back into position.

Thanks for the help, and the prompt reply.

The Samsung RF23M8090SG

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
