Resolved Question

Remote not fully functional

Feb 22, 2015 6:06AM PST

I have a Samsung 55" smart TV model no. UN55H6203AFXZA. I programmed my cable box with the IR extender and the remote is not fully functional. For example I can change channels but I can't turn the cable box on or off. Or if I bring up the guide and select a new channel it goes back to the channel I was previously watching. The cable box is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HDC. I've tried programming 3 times.

I'm sorry to hear this! Have you tried putting in the exact model code of the cable box during the universal set up?

Don't know how to do this

I didn't see an option during setup to enter the model of the cable box, and I didn't see anything in the manual. I did try to set it up again and it works fine as long as the IR extender is in front of the box - is it supposed to be thay way?

With this particular model you would have to keep the extender in front of the cable boxes. You can only remove the extender with the higher end series. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Coincidentally my old cable box just died so I had Time Warner replace it with a Samsung box and it works great - thanks!

I'm seeing other posts like this.

I'm going with true. Since the other than samsung boxes can vary a lot, they are hit and miss on all functions.

Be sure to call it in to ask if there is any update.

So it does work?

There was a member that kept unplugging the extender after it was working. I'm unsure why they did that.

However IR is line of sight so the extender would be to put the IR signal where the other box can see it. It's a shame stores and their personal don't explain that.

Extender

Now I am confused. The printed manual that came with the TV says "once set up is complete and you have confirmed that you can use the TV remote to control the device, disconnect the IR extender cable from the TV and set it aside. You can now control the device directly with your remote." However, the e-mail says "You must leave the IR extender in place so that it faces the external device to be able to control the
device." So it appears the printed manual is incorrect???

Some folk take that as a defect.

Your choice on what to do next. Go with what works, a fix, reprint or something else.
