Being a holiday it may take time for folk to answer.
Go get AUTORUNS to see more about it.
Using Lenovo G585, Firefox 42, W.7 Home Premium
I have tried to post this question under the Security Heading, but I must have clicked the wrong button as it didn't post!
A few days ago a small square green icon appeared in the task bar by the clock.
I clicked it and had the choice of 'About' or 'Exit'
Clicking on 'About' I was informed that it was -
Remote Control Utility VI.0.6.8 Copyright (c) 2004 - 2009
No other details were shown, like who made it, etc.
I cannot find this in my Conrol Panel nor can I find it by entering the details in the search box above the Start button, neither could I find any reference to it in the Search Box above the Start button.
The internet was also not successful.
I would be grateful if anyone knows any details about this, how/why it works, if it is 'harmful.' I do not want it on my computer especially if it is operated without my permission, so I would like to remove it. How to remove it is the question as I cannot find it anywhere in order to do this!
Thanks in advance,
Hello Bob and Renegade60,
Thank you both for your replies.
I realise about the holiday, I wasn't concerned about no replies, but that for some reason I couldn't find my post under the Security tab! I am sorry to have posted my question twice.
I have restored my system 3 times this morning. The last being to as far back as July.
The icon remained after the first 2 and is still there, when I open the 'hidden icons' box by the clock, after the 3rd restore!
I would check your suggestion, Bob, but I don't know where to find "autoruns" would you please instruct me on how to get there?
Hope you both had a good Thanksgiving and have now recovered! (To the best of my knowledge, "Thanksgiving" is an American Celebration. In the UK the nearest we get to that is our Harvest Festival, which is usually around 22/23 September - but for the same reason, to give thanks for our harvest!)
Just as an additional concern that I have, having restored back to a date in July, I tried to check if I needed to update windows if the Restore had removed any updates which had been obtained since July.
I appear to be unable to do update and all I get is an invitation to Install W.10. I have no intention of doing this at the moment, until my son comes over to Spain and can "sit at my shoulder" to advise me if there are any problems . which I have read about from many who have installed W.10!
