Question

Remote Control IR Codes for my smart TV 42LA740V

Apr 23, 2014 2:16AM PDT

I dislike the Magic Remote which is the only one supplied with my 42LA740V. I want to obtain the IR codes for this TV so that I can program a universal remote to do the job.

Or purchase a traditional remote from LG to do the job. Surprisingly LG Support UK say they can't help me with either of these requests! and referred me to a Spare Supplier who can't do anything either. Can anyone out there help?

I also dislike to sound balance but that's another problem.

thanks RogerS

Sorry I see no codes in the wild.

What this means is we need a "learning remote" or check to see if the Logitech Harmony has codes at their site.

Learning Remote?
Apr 23, 2014 4:00AM PDT

Thanks Bob I have checked with Logitech and they don't have the codes for this TV. How would a "Learning Remote" work? Roger

Learning Remote again
Apr 23, 2014 4:33AM PDT

I sort of get the idea but it might be a long winded process. One thought however I think my Magic Remote is RF and I'm assuming a universal remote is going to be IR. Does this mean Learning is a non starter or does the Magic RF also transmit IR? surely not. Roger

So you don't have IR?

Sorry but I read your top post asking for IR codes, my quick check of the TV seems to show IR and now you are asking about RF?

If so, just like the BOSE RF controlled units there are no replacements. Then again, I'm taking your word it's RF and not what I found on the web about that TV.

As to long winded, I didn't think it was. But then again I programmed a GE-210 computer with paper tape, etc.

Sorry to have confused the issue

Sorry Bob . . . I really don't know if this Magic Remote is RF or IR. But it works when I block the line of vision and use it pointed away from the Telly! The Manual gives Frequency Ranges of operation, would that be the same for an IR? But So I'm guessing really.

I thought that the TV itself might accept either IR commands from the "old Style " remotes or RF from this new Magic Remote but it's all guess work on my part.

Thanks for your help Bob

Useful review that Bob. I intend to read it again later. Like them I am most unimpressed by the sound!

Not interested in that App what I want is a universal remote, probably, Harmony One. Want to control the Hi Fi and TIVO all from one unit.

Logitech don't have codes for 42LA740V, LG say they don't know them. I'll just keep digging away at this as this multiple remote business is annoying and we (wife and I) don't like the plodding way round the Magic does it's job. Meanwhile thanks for your interest . . . Roger

Do you know how to "see" the IR?
Apr 23, 2014 7:33AM PDT

Video about that -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoPSX3wYSXo

I use a camera to see the ir pulses. Now a lot of folk go around asking for the "codes" but given that not all protocols are the same, and the industry is all over the map we turn to learning remotes which basically record what it sees and plays it back.

Look around and see prior discussions folk asking for "the codes." Unless we are talking about a specific remote we can't tap in a code to replace another remote. I know this sounds incredible but this is really old old tech.

Answer
UCR-WR7

Hi there, I see this is an old thread, hopefully you've already found a solution to your problem. But I wanted to share my experience nonetheless, since I stumbled on this thread searching for something similar.
I've bought a UCR-WR7 universal remote and configured it with one of the LG codes supplied in the manual. For the LG TV it is a bliss. Everything works perfect, the WR7 even has buttons for some features that are unavailable on the Magic Remote. There's a button for instant access to the Input selection menu for instance, also a button for instant access to a digital TV guide. Great stuff. There's two things the WR7 doesn't do however: I have not found a way to activate the TV's 3D mode, nor can I open the Smart TV's Home Screen with the WR7. I came here searching for a way to find out the frequency of whatever for the 3D function so I would be able to program it in the remote. Cheers!
