Resolved Question

Remote control for desktop pc?

Nov 22, 2011 3:47AM PST

My husband has a Win 7 pc custom built by Fry's. Is there such a thing as a remote control (I guess it would need a usb dongle) to control it? Like to watch Netflix or Xfinity TV on the computer while he's in bed. He has a large monitor and then I could get him to get the pc off the kitchen table and upstairs. I tried using google but just got hits for remotely accessing from another computer. Didn't know exactly what to search for. His HP laptop came with a remote but we've never used it.

This probably belongs in the hardward forum?

Clarification Request
Just thought of something

I don't know but I would guess the HP remote must use bluetooth? I do have a bluetooth usb thing. So if the HP remote uses bluetooth could I plug my usb bluetooth dongle in and use the HP remote? Or will I need some software outside of win 7 to use it?

USB Wireless Keyboards & Mice Are Easily Available
Nov 22, 2011 5:29AM PST

Their "reach" differs based on the specific unit, but I've got a set that will reach about 15 feet or so.. Some only reach 3 or 4 feet but using a USB extension cable should allow the dongle to be placed closer to the bed and therfore allow it to reach quite a bit further. You could also check for "Long Range" USB keyboards and mice too. Bluetooth units allow for a little more range so that would be worth checking out also.

With a keyboard and mouse in the bed, you could do most anything including shut down, place in "Sleep" mode, etc.

Hope this helps.

That will work fine. I have wireless mice. Duh, I should have thought of that myself.
