Question

Remote Assist Between Windows 7 & 10 PC's

Jul 25, 2016 5:13PM PDT

I have a Windows 10 Laptop. My Father-in-law has a Windows 7 desktop. I often have to spend long phone conversations resolving issues with his PC. Using Remote Assist would help greatly, but every time we try to connect it fails! For a few days we are visiting and I have both computers in the same room and STILL can't connect. Why? I've tried quick connect, I've tried using IP address. Nothing! Can someone walk me thru the settings for both computers to be sure we are correct. By the way, both computers' full names are rather simple (i.e. "Bob Laptop" and "Joe Desktop" so I can't see that being a proper way to connect.) Many website posts make it seem so simple but nothing is working and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

Sadly no. But let's cover why's.

There is no iron clad setup that works. I continue to find antivirus suites and firewalls to keep breaking this so you have to be a near IT white robed clergy person to figure out what it is this time.

To top it off, back in the router there are new firewalls that you need to control or turn off. Routers were a natural firewall but this firewall blocks connections on the LAN too!

For me I forgo the Microsoft RA and look back to VNC (see google.)
