Reminder -- please don't use the "workaround"

May 9, 2006 10:00PM PDT

when the discussion exceeds 8 levels. After a "software fix" six months or so ago, what used to be an innocuous solution to any annoying "feature" of the software started farkling the tree structure, so that all messages below the level of the work-around become invisible. It doesn't actually happen at level 9, but does inevitably cause problems at some level.

Not sure what the workaround is.

So I guess I'm not using it?

Mee too,

I will have to find out so I can not use it

I intentionally did mention it to avoid giving temptation!

Yes Dave the workaround should

be avoided until notification that the problem has been fixed. Believe I was the last one to advise in Feedback not to use the workaround, but of course all SE members do not go to the Feedback forum and who needs to take my advice. Happy

Pls see my post below.

Won't be an issue

I never have used the workaroud or abused any other feature of the software to make a post.

Yes, I also noticed two people using

the workaround again and expected the disappearance would happen like in the past, but then thought maybe the problem has been fixed.

The last post that had eliminated a good portion of the thread, apparently because it exceeded the allowable layers of post by using the workaround, was reported to Adam, the Engineer who was posting in Feedback:

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-7598-0.html?forumID=51&threadID=161040&messageID=1794327

Adam (unijuglr) indicated he had a fix but had to wait until that upcoming Monday to implement.
http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-7598-0.html?forumID=51&threadID=161040&messageID=1800954

That was the next to the last post Adam made in the Feedback forum and it was on March 10. Well, several Monday's went by and the Oscar thread in question was not fixed. Adam's next and last post in Feedback was March 16. I asked Lee Koo what happened to Adam, did his boss pull him from Feedback. His reply was, ''Adam is around but he is swamped as usual.''

Apparently Adam's delayed fix of the workround problem for the Oscar thread has been done. Now just wondering, did his fix include future workarounds?

BTW, the 7 layer thread post limit was extended to 12 layers in July 2004. It now appears to be at 14 layers.
