Remaining forum issues?

Nov 14, 2006 5:49AM PST

The original thread has become quite long making it difficult to navigate, especially with resolved and duplicated issues posted. Thus, I have created this one to keep tabs on what issues still remain after the latest patch releases. Please look through this thread and try not to duplicate issues already posted.

Nov 14, 2006 5:55AM PST

Instead of simply showing the date the post was submitted, as it should, it is displaying the time/date stamp in the format Thu Nov 09 10:29:18 PST 2006.

... did the other moderators let it stand?

I HAD great respect for a lot of them. Primary amongst those was Angeline. Well, sorry Angeline, but you were definitely "on duty" today, and responding in this thread, but failed to delete Jonah's blatant violations.

I knew I forgot one of them but couldn't remember which one I forgot. Happy

In Tree View the post count is malfunctioning. If you are viewing the first page of a thread the post number may be greater than the total number of posts while if you are on Page 2 or beyond it starts counting posts from the start of that page, not the start of the thread.

Cosmetic: strange character in Hot discussions.
Nov 14, 2006 5:47PM PST

This thread is titled "Remaining forum issues..."

In the hot discussions list on the forums main page the last three dots are replaced by ONE square. It seems likely the same happens with the latest posts section. But as far as I can see, it happens nowhere else.

Could it be the three dots are translated to an (Unicode?) ellipsis character that is handled incorrectly in some other part of the software? Then better let it stay the three full stops we type.

by Glenda - 11/8/06 9:47 AM

I think that Glenda broke it on November the 8th.

Also I'm not quite sure if the advanced search is or is not working correctly. I searched for a discussion about internet time and could not find the answer.

An error occurred getting the status of the last synchronization. The RPC server is unavailable.

I remember there was a fix for this. I have DSL and tied to update and always get this message using any of the time servers. Still looking for the answer.

Hi Rick,
Nov 17, 2006 12:16AM PST

I've been having trouble with the profile page too. Especially the "user was last logged in on (date)". I've seen 3 or 4 days ago, when that person is busily posting away in the forum. Wink

I also can't get search to work. Heck, I search on a NAME and get no results.

Ah, well. I guess they'll stomp on these bugs as they come out. Happy

Some old, some new...
Nov 17, 2006 12:52AM PST

The "Last online" has been that way for as long as I can remember and is how it was designed. It's set up to update only when the member logs in, so he could read hundreds of threads and submit dozens of posts and it won't update, making it a fairly limited feature. Sad

The search and profiles are another matter, though. Apparently the search algorithm saw what was going on in SE and decided to commit suicide. Grin It looks like the engineers are still attempting to resuscitate. True story.

Thanks, John!

I can see how search might wanna commit suicide in SE, that's for sure! Wink Hope it can be fixed, I know that's an oft-used feature for a lot of members. LOL

I know reading posts doesn't require login, but message marking won't work if you're not, but I thought one had to be logged in to post.

I really hadn't paid attention to the last online until yesterday, it's rare that I look at profiles.

Keep on truckin!

Minor: (NT) with text
Nov 23, 2006 11:46PM PST

We revised this to work that way
Nov 27, 2006 9:02AM PST

In the old forums (NT) was inserted into the subject line when you previewed your post with no body (even before your message was posted into the system). Now the system only inserts the (NT) after your post has been submitted and it detects that there is no message body. This way there is less likely for user error in case during the preview state you wanted to add text to the body of your post.

I hope this makes sense.

Steps to reproduce
Nov 27, 2006 8:57PM PST

- Start new message
- Some subject title text
- Press enter (instead of tab)
- Click Edit
- Some message body text
- Click Submit Post

NT flag is sticky after first implied preview / submit (hitting enter)

Advanced Search is stuck
Nov 26, 2006 7:44PM PST

It will only show page one. Does NOT go to the other pages. I tried to find Bob's anti parasite page, using advanced search. Had to manually find it. Another forum member needed it to fix their problem.

Change this setting
Dec 7, 2006 4:34AM PST

Using Mozilla Firefox, allow cnet.com and i.com.com and the Advanced Search function will change to the next page.

Under the old Forums, you did NOT need to allow i.com.com
