Reloading window XP

Feb 20, 2009 10:32PM PST

I bought a copy of WindowsXP a couple of years ago. Since then I had to reload my laptop with it. I bought a new laptop with vista and want to load windowsxp. But window I tried to load it, it would not load or accept my key provided. Someone said its because there is a limit on how many times it can be loaded. IS this true if so how do i get it to work on my new computer?

The media doesn't know how many times it's been used

So I don't see how it would refuse to accept a key during the installation process unless it wasn't typed in properly. Where you'd run into trouble is activating the system if that key was already seen as being in use. What sort of copy of XP was this? Was it a full retail or OEM copy? You'd have trouble with an upgrade copy of course. We'll presume that Vista was completely removed before you started the installation of XP. Where, exactly, in the installation process did you run into a snag and what error was generated?

unless the manufacturer of that new laptop says it is down-gradeable to XP, you will need to hunt down the drivers for it manually, and that may be difficult. Some newer computers do not have XP compatible drivers.

I bought it at Best Buy. Like I said I used it twice. Once on a desk top before I bought the laptop and then the laptop and now want to reload it on the new laptop and get ride of vista.
